With a distinguished career in intellectual property law, Ernie Gifford’s practice focuses on patents, trademarks and copyrights. Ernie has been involved in litigation in almost every state in the United States and has conducted IP jury trials in Michigan, Ohio, Florida and Nevada. He has also been an expert witness in a number of patent suits.
Ernie was an instructor in the paralegal program at Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, and also an adjunct professor at Stetson Law School, St. Petersburg, Florida, where he led a class in patent and copyright law. He also taught in the IP Master’s program at the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in Michigan. Ernie has authored several articles and publications in patent, trademark and copyright law, and has lectured extensively on these subjects at seminars and programs.
Ernie has chaired the Patent, Copyright and Trademark Section of the State Bar of Michigan, and served as Arbitrator of the American Arbitration Association. He received his Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School and holds an undergraduate degree from Michigan State University.
