With a fondness of all things related to science, working in IP law allows Ben to be in tune with scientific advancements – and apply them to best serve his clients. Starting his career in banking and environmental compliance afforded Ben meaningful experience to understand complex legal issues and government entities. In his trademark work, he enjoys watching businesses grow and thrive by putting his skills to work identifying, mitigating, and resolving issues for business owners.
Benjamin holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law. He obtained a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Policy from Drake University. Outside of the law, he enjoys international travel and spent two years living abroad in South Korea and traveling around southeast Asia. He also plays and coaches basketball.
Benjamin chose to pursue a career in law because it offered him the chance to help people and effect change in meaningful ways. It also afforded him the opportunity to have a career that is both interesting and challenging.
Benjamin was drawn to intellectual property because of the chance to learn about and help new businesses grow. Benjamin has always had an interest in all things science and working in IP law gives him the chance to be a resource for new businesses while also keeping abreast of advances in his fields of interest.
Prior to working in law, Benjamin worked in banking compliance and environmental compliance. His work in these arenas gave him a great amount of familiarity working with complex legal issues and interacting with government agencies. It also required that he hone the necessary skills (i.e. organization / time management / attention to detail / working within a schedule & budget / etc.) that allows him to be successful in his current role.
Growing up with 11 siblings gave Benjamin an appreciation for the fact that people have their unique talents and that many talents are often needed to accomplish tasks well. It also impressed upon him the importance of working together to accomplish your goals and resolve issues.
