As part of a summer job in Ann Arbor while attending the U of M, John interacted with Allen Krass, one of the first Patent Attorneys in the State of Michigan. John graduated and became an electrical engineer, but was uninspired. He took a job as an editor at Electronics Magazine in New York City, and one day, while reading the magazine, Allen Krass saw John’s byline and called him up. Krass told John he should become a patent lawyer because if he just put “claims” after his articles, they would be patent applications. That was 30 years ago.
