James W. Taylor II

James W. Taylor II is an associate attorney at Fishman Stewart, focusing his practice on patents and trade secrets, as well as litigation and dispute resolution. James knows the patent process from all sides – as an inventor, a patent examiner, and a patent agent. He has experience working in the United States Patent and Trademark Office as an examiner and worked as a patent agent for a decade before receiving his law degree and transitioning to being a registered patent attorney.

Growing up with a father who worked in chemistry instilled in James a deep appreciation for science, innovation, and technology – and what they contribute to the greater good.
He loves the intersection of technology and the law and is energized by helping inventors secure their rights and drive the economy forward. His unusual combination of advanced technical skills – and increasingly, AI – in the chemical and computer science/electrical arts, in combination with his legal acumen, give James a perspective in IP law that few share.

James is no stranger to the classroom. He holds a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Sewanee: The University of the South, a Master of Science in Chemistry from The University of Sydney (Australia), and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Eastern Michigan University. He is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Computer Engineering at Eastern Michigan University and a Master of Science in Computer Science at Johns Hopkins University.

Outside of practicing law, James is a tabletop roleplay and board game aficionado. He also enjoys golfing and sport aviation.
